Validity of chlorine-wall reaction models for drinking water distribution systems

چکیده

Chlorine concentrations in water distribution systems are generally predicted by combined models of reactions bulk and at pipe walls. The structure the widely used EPANET wall-reaction is questioned, as they do not reproduce variation rate with decreasing chlorine observed real pipelines. microbially mediated model (EXPBIO) structurally valid. EXPBIO was extended to calculate mass-transfer coefficient individual pipes, rather than using a single fitted value. Smooth- rough-pipe versions were formally validated against data from Mirrabooka pipeline, where predictions better matched lower concentrations. In medium-sized rough pipe, doubled between 10 30°C. concentration decreased much faster distance downstream higher temperature, due increasing microbial activity chlorine. System simulations search for improved seasonal dosing strategies need include these effects.

On Parameters Estimation of the Input-output Chlorine Residuals Models of Drinking Water Distribution Networks

This paper presents some aspects concerning the estimation of the parameters in the input-output chlorine residuals models of drinking water distribution networks (DWDNs) used for transportation of treated drinkable water from the water treating plants to consumers. To kill the microorganisms that can cause the waterborne ills, disinfection is usually the final treatment stage in the drinking w...

Effect of pipe corrosion scales on chlorine dioxide consumption in drinking water distribution systems.

Previous studies showed that temperature and total organic carbon in drinking water would cause chlorine dioxide (ClO(2)) loss in a water distribution system and affect the efficiency of ClO(2) for Legionella control. However, among the various causes of ClO(2) loss in a drinking water distribution system, the loss of disinfectant due to the reaction with corrosion scales has not been studied i...

Monitoring of Chlorine Concentration in Drinking Water Distribution Systems Using an Interval Estimator

This paper describes the design of an interval observer for the estimation of unmeasured quality state variables in drinking water distribution systems. The estimator utilizes a set bounded model of uncertainty to produce robust interval bounds on the estimated state variables of the water quality. The bounds are generated by solving two differential equations. Hence the numerical efficiency is...

Stability and effectiveness of chlorine disinfectants in water distribution systems.

A test system for water distribution was used to evaluate the stability and effectiveness of three residual disinfectants--free chlorine, combined chlorine, and chlorine dioxide--when challenged with a sewage contaminant. The test distribution system consisted of the street main and internal plumbing for two barracks at Fort George G. Meade, MD. To the existing pipe network, 152 m (500 ft) of 1...
